Abdullah
Uhuru has over 20 years of working with young people in the statutory
and voluntary sector and also in Further Education and draws from
this extensive experience in his work. As a writer, photographer
and performing artist, Uhuru is a great believer in the use of emotional
intelligence to help individuals and groups explore how their feelings,
perceptions and misconceptions shape their actions. His sessions
are hands-on and designed for mixed ability groups.
Abdullah feels
that it is important that students get to converse with a Black
male writer-sociologist, as it can motivate students from all backgrounds
and breakdown racial stereotypes. Abdullah has been invited to speak
and run sessions with University students, Islamic groups, voluntary
groups, prison inmates and primary school pupils drawing on his
diverse community and educational experiences in the UK, the Caribbean,
Egypt and Iran.
